Frequently Asked Questions

Can we use the 3 apples logo in our publication?
Yes, we encourage people to use our logo to promote the 3 Apples Book Award. You can find small and large gif and jpg versions of the logo to use under “Promotional Ideas”, graphics and posters.
Can students enter their nominations on the web site?
No! The nominations must be entered on the web site by the librarian or a library assistant. Students submit their nominations to the librarian who tallies the results and enters them on the web site. This helps us keep the data secure and reliable.
What if I make a mistake entering information and can’t change it?
Use the “Contact Us” button on the web site and let us know, and we will correct the mistake for you.
Where can I find the sheet for the students to fill out their nomination?
Click on “Election Forms” at the bottom of the home page or click the “About the Award” button. Look under the heading “Nomination and Election Materials”.
When are the nominations due?
Nominations must be submitted to the web site by midnight October 31st. We suggest that you end the nomination period on October 20th. That will give you time to compile and enter all the students’ nominations.
What kinds of books can students nominate?
Any book that is their favorite. It could be a chapter book, picture book or non-fiction book. But it must be an individual title, not a series.
How do I submit the nominations to you?
On the web site click the “Vote” button to enter nominations. You must use a password to enter the site. The password is available from your school library system director or by using the “Contact Us” or “Help” button.
I am a little confused. Do students have to read or hear 3 of the fifteen books or all 15 books in order to vote in April?
They only need to read or listen to 3 of the titles, but of course we encourage them to read as many as they can.
What do the three apples represent?
The three apples name comes from the ending of a traditional Armenian folktale. We chose apples because they represent New York State and are kid-friendly. We also hope to have 3 awards in the future. One for Pre-K through 2nd grade, the 3rd grade through 6th grade award we have now, and a young adult 7th through 12th grade award.
Do we submit nominations daily or all at once?
You can submit them daily or in groups or all at once, whatever works best for you.
Is there a place on the voting form for students to list the books they have read?
We encourage librarians to use their own judgment in regard to accountability. Some librarians will decide to register their voters, and use that opportunity for their students to list the books they have read. Others will go by the honor system, and there are many options in between. The forms on the web site are only suggestions, and can be adapted to fit your library, or you can use the 3 Apples logo and artwork to design your own forms.
